Curling School is a Huge Success

Garnering a large number of new members during a non-Olympic year is often a difficult task. Not so for 2012, as the Fall Open House coupled with a comprehensive Curling School resulted in 32 new members for the upcoming season.

The Open House on October 5th & 6th brought 98 people to the club. This was thanks in large part to our many members who helped spread the word throughout the community. But an open house alone isn’t always enough to turn a potential curler into a active one.

To further participate, many of the Open House attendees signed up for Curling School. Members Dion Warr, Charlie Brown, Becky Trousil and Kirk Wallace structured the first 2 sessions to focus on the basic techniques of curling. About 40 people took advantage of this educational opportunity. The result? 80% of those who attended Curling School ended up joining the club.

Numbers like this are hard to come by, especially in a non-Olympic year. The club wishes to thank all those who helped make this year’s Curling School and Open House successful. Good luck and good curling to all our new members!
