Congratulations to Team Gallegos from the Ardsley Curling Club in winning this year’s Raymond Kayser Bonspiel, the GNCC’s Mixed 5 and Under. 40 teams competed in this highly anticipated yearly event which was held at SCC February 12th through the 15th 2015. The Kayser Mixed Bonspiel is solely for curlers with five years or less of curling experience. Of the 40 teams, players came from as far away as Virginia and both Potomac and Schenectady brought six teams each to the spiel.
Matthew Gallegos led his rink of Sharon Gallegos, Jan Zahour and Nicole Pottberg-Zahour to victory over Schenectady’s own Team Stoffer, skipped by Chad Stoffer, with Meghan Muller as vice, Kirk Wallace at second, and Becky Trousil at lead.

Schenectady had a great time hosting this year’s Kayser and hopes that all the teams enjoyed their time with us. SCC would like to thank Fay Navratil and Paula Lancaster for chairing this event and being there from start to finish to ensure everything went off well and to too many members to mention specifically who came out in support of this event and SCC. From the kitchen volunteers (special shout out to Kathy Brown, Sue Streeter, Kevin Gomes, and Jackie Donegan), to the ice crew (special shout out to Jim Ridenour and Jeff Mayott) to the bar staff (special shout out to Tom, Joan and Sherrie), to the webcasting crew (special shout out to Scott Brennan, Peggy O’Connor, Dan Machold and Rock)…it takes a whole club to put on a good bonspiel. Thank you to all those who came out and made it happen! And good luck to all of the 5 and Under curlers on their upcoming bonspiels…thank you for making Schenectady a stop on your 5 and under trail!
