Little Rocks (Sat -10AM)
Little Rocks is our curling program for the youngest of curlers, aged 6-11. It's held Saturdays at 10AM and runs 1 to 1 1/2 hours.
Multiple instructors usually start the session with a practice/instruction, and then pick teams for practice games. Older kids (10/11 years old) usually go on their own sheet and play their own game.
Some members use full-size, half-weight stones, while others use full weight stones. It really depends on what the children are comfortable with. Younger members are required to wear helmets for safety reasons.
Occasionally, we'll schedule competitions (bonspiels) against other clubs. There are a few opportunities to travel for an event, (Albany Curling Club, Ardsley Curling Club, etc.) for those who are interested. This is not set in stone, as these trips are based on participation and interest.
Youth Curling Coordinator: TBD
Juniors (Sunday - 1:00 PM)
Anyone between 12 and 21 years of age is welcome to participate in our Junior Curling program. Slightly younger curlers are welcome to participate with the approval of the Junior program's coaching staff, with the decision based on the curler's maturity, and his/her ability to use the 42 pound stones.
Our Juniors range in skills from brand new curlers to curlers who have competed in the Junior National Championships. Since there is so much to master in this sport, our coaching staff and more experienced Junior curlers work to improve everyone's skills.

(Sun, full season) Open Doubles - Shetland
Played on Sunday at 7:30 PM
The Shetland is an Open Doubles League at Schenectady.
NEW FORMAT FOR 2024-25 SEASON - NOW A FULL YEAR LEAGUE (details below)
SCC member interest in Doubles Curling has steadily increased since the Sunday Doubles league premiered in 2017.
To open space for more curlers, the league will be organized with a full year format this season.
In previous seasons, the Shetland league was capped at 10 teams (20 curlers); with two bye-teams each week. With a full year format, we will to expand to include 16 teams (32 curlers) this year. Planned format details:
- League play will start in October and run throuh April.
- With a full 16 teams, two evenly seeded pools, of 8 teams each, will be populated at the start of the season.
- Each pool will compete in a round robin (playing 7 games). That will require 14 league nights (Oct-Feb).
- League play will continue Feb-Apr
- with the top two teams from each pool advancing to a Page playoff to determine league championship.
- and the remaining 6 teams in each pool will be scheduled to play new opponents in cross-pool play.
- The two pools will alternate play from week to week.
- If fewer than 16 teams register, the schedule will be adjusted to maximize play for all teams.
Come join us. It promises to be a fun season.

Played on Thursday at 8:30 PM
The Open Doubles League at Schenectady is a variation of Mixed Doubles Curling which has been played at the Continental Cup and played competitively for several years, with the first World Championship in 2008. Teams can be of the same gender or one of each gender. You may sign up as a pair or as a single and be matched by the league chairperson. This league is open to any member in the Regular and Young Adult member categories.
The Open Doubles League is a fun 8 end curling match played in about 1 1/2 hours. It's scored the same as a regular game, but there are a few differences. A team consists of only two players, each team has only six stones and one stone for each team is placed either in the house or outside the house as a guard at the start of each end and the remaining five rocks are thrown. One team member throws the first and the last stone of the end and the other player throws rocks, two, three and four. The team may change the throwing order after each end. Sweeping is allowed by the thrower and/or the non-thrower. No rock may be removed from play until the fourth stone of the end.
