[caption id="attachment_3037" align="alignleft" width="300" caption="GNCC Mixed Champions: Mike Stefanik, Andrea Warr, Dion Warr, Lisa Nieradka"]Team Stefanik[/caption]

Congratulations to Mike Stefanik, Andrea Warr, Dion Warr, and Lisa Nieradka on winning the 2014 Grand National Curling Club (GNCC) Mixed Championships. The event was hosted by the Chesapeake Curling Club in Easton, MD from February 6-9, 2014.

Six teams entered the tournament, vying for the opportunity to represent the GNCC region at the upcoming 2014 USCA Mixed National Championship in Wisconsin Rapids, WI from March 15-22, 2014. The championship is being hosted by the Tri-City Curling Club and the venue is the South Wood County Recreation Center, a hockey rink that will be converted into 4 sheets of quality curling ice. Curlers were from the Ardsley, Pittsburgh, Plainfield, Potomac, Schenectady, Triangle, and Virginia curling clubs.

The first three games were very close, all coming down to the final stone. The competition was very good but Team Stefanik prevailed in all five round robin games. The group of volunteers and officials at Chesapeake did a wonderful job and the ice conditions were very good. Full standings, rosters, and linescores from the playdowns can be found on CurlingZone.

The team is excited about their trip to Nationals where they will play against nine other teams from the various curling regions across the US. Mike has been to US Club Men's Nationals in 2010 and Andrea won silver in the 1996 Junior Nationals. This will be the first time at Nationals for Dion and Lisa. Good luck in Wisconsin!
